What is Intercollegiate Eventing?
The United States Eventing Association (USEA) Intercollegiate Eventing Program allows students to continue competing in eventing during college while representing their university. Riders compete individually while also contributing scores toward their school’s team result.
Do I have to try out?
No! UK Eventing welcomes all eventing enthusiasts. Our team is open to riders of many experience levels who share a passion for the sport.
Do I have to be an Equine Science major to join?
Not at all. UK Eventing is open to students from all majors at the University of Kentucky. While many members are involved in the equine program, anyone with an interest in horses and eventing is welcome.
Do I need to own or lease my own horse?
Yes, if you wish to compete with the team at Intercollegiate Events. UK Eventing does not provide team horses. However, we offer a Social Membership for those who want to be involved with the team but do not have a horse or do not plan to compete.
Where can I keep my horse?
UK does not have a team barn, so members are free to choose any facility where they would like to board their horse. Check out our Barn List HERE to see local facilities where many of our current members board.
Do I have to compete to be part of the team?
No. Many members join through our Social Membership to be part of the community, attend clinics and events, and support the team without competing.
What skill level do I need to join?
All experience levels are welcome. Riders competing at Intercollegiate Events typically compete at Beginner Novice level or higher, but members can join the team simply to be involved in the eventing community.
How often does the team travel to competitions?
The team attends several Intercollegiate Events each semester at venues across the region. Travel schedules vary depending on the event and the number of competitors attending.
What kind of activities do members participate in?
Each year, UK Eventing hosts a variety of riding and non-riding activities. These include clinics with top eventing professionals, schooling jumper shows at local facilities, and social events such as bowling, axe throwing, and trail rides.
Do members receive team gear?
Yes. Competitive members have access to rentable official UK Eventing team apparel and gear. Many members choose to purchase their own embroidered jackets, saddle pads, and other items to represent the team at competitions and events.
Are there leadership opportunities within the team?
Absolutely. UK Eventing offers officer positions and other leadership opportunities where members can help organize events, coordinate clinics, and support team operations.
Does the team offer scholarships?
Because UK Eventing is a club sport, we are not funded by the university and cannot offer athletic scholarships.
